Massachusetts has among the most rigorous siting processes in the nation.
As with all electric power facilities in Massachusetts, the Walpole Energy Center must file with The Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board as part of the approval process. The Siting Board is responsible for authorizing and licensing new power generating facilities throughout the commonwealth.
To obtain approval for construction, The Walpole Energy Center must also go through a rigorous environmental review process before the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The proposed facility must also receive approvals from the Walpole Planning Board, Walpole Conservation Commission and Walpole Zoning Board of Appeals. Finally, any PILOT agreed to between the Walpole Energy Center and the community is subject to a Town Meeting vote.
CPV practices active engagement with the local community to ensure that unique needs and interests of each project area are addressed.
